Class: Intro to Design Planning

Term: Spring 2017

Team Member(s): Kira Novak, John Pew, Nigel Antony, Andrei Hogea

Context

Intro to Design Planning was a course on robust ecosystem businesses, which leverage multiple different businesses in order to make a final product. Additionally, we focused on how to move from concept to deep execution and how to develop functionality over multiple waves. Working in a team, the challenge was to identify a domain to address, identify existing platforms of services to leverage, and think through a concept that would be valuable and viable enough to become a game changing ecosystem business.

Project

It is well understood that the internet has drastically changed the way people get news, explore and learn about topics, and communicate with one another. What's more, social media has enabled news, irrespective of its validity, to spread like wildfire, making it hard for people to discern what is true and what is false. In response to this, my team imagined a service called Glimpse, a visualization platform that tracks the source and spread of news and content over the Internet. It is an unbiased aggregator, curator, and filter of news that helps users visually understand the news in a larger context. A user can see how a story begins and grows and apply filters to understand the information in different ways.

*Glimpse’s visual language was developed by me.
